Explorations in Prayer
When: Preliminary meeting on Sunday, March 18th, 2012
Where: At the church
In his deeply ecumenical book, Simply Pray, by Eric Walker Wikstrom identifies four modes of prayer common across virtually all religions, which he calls Naming, Knowing, Listening, and Loving. Reaching beyond particular beliefs and expressions, he uses these core practices to point toward a way of “creating an inclusive, yet rooted prayer practice.” In this course, we’ll use Wikstrom’s slim and readable book as a foundation for exploring prayer through reading, discussion, and practice.
The class will convene from mid-April through May. Day of the week and time is TBD and open to discussion. If you’re interested, please plan to attend a preliminary meeting on March 18th at 11:20 at the church. We’ll “weigh in” on the schedule and cover questions. If you’re interested but unable to come to this meeting, please or call her at 410-489-7823.
Participants will need the book, Simply Pray: A Modern Spiritual Practice to Deepen Your Life, available from the UUA bookstore, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, and other sources.
Six 1½ hour sessions at Channing Memorial Church, Bethany Lane. Facilitated by Ostara Hollyoak
