“Lessons from My Mother” with Rev. Jane Bennett Smith<\/strong><\/p>\n

As we honor Mother\u2019s Day, we lean into imperfection and the many forms of love.\u00a0 Our lives are a tapestry of mothers of various roles and titles working to tend to us. Today we honor the lessons these mothers instilled in us, and the lessons I learned from mother figures that led to resiliency and wonder in unexpected ways.\u00a0 How does motherhood, in all its forms, cultivate beauty?<\/p>\n

As we join to honor Mother\u2019s Day this Sunday, I invite you to bring a flower with you to service.<\/b>\u00a0 A colored flower if your mother is alive, and a white one if she has passed away.\u00a0 Together, our individual flowers join to create a unique bouquet. Each flower, just as each mother, brings with it its own beauty and its own imperfections. Perhaps your mom is dedicated like a dandelion, unassuming like violet, or beautiful yet not without thorns, like a rose. Together we will create a bouquet of collective beauty that allows us to honor, celebrate, heal, and mourn. \u00a0<\/p>\n
