Our Small Group Theme for April is Liberation. What an intriguing theme! When I think of liberation, I think of liberation as both
personal and societal. The following quote from Howard Thurman speaks
eloquently of personal liberation, and also ties together some themes I heard
lifted up from last month’s discussion of wisdom: “There is something in you
that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself. It is the only
true guide you will ever have. And if you cannot hear it, you will spend your
days on the ends of strings that somebody else pulls.” What a powerful call for
each of us to listen to our genuine selves. And yet, liberation goes beyond the
self and becomes societal. Lila Watson writes, “If you have come to help me,
you are wasting your time, but if you have come because your liberation is
bound up with mine, then let us work together.” I look forward to discussing
and reflecting on these ideas and others in our April Small Groups.
These small groups are special because they allow each member to deeply engage with the topic in multiple ways. In preparation for each month’s Small Group, I will send each group member a packet. You are invited to select from this packet one spiritual exercise and one question to reflect on before our meeting together. While reviewing the packet ahead of time is a great way to prepare for group, please do not let a busy schedule deter you from participating. ****If you are feeling overwhelmed with anxiety or uncertainty, do not feel obligated to complete the packet***Whatever amount of time you are able to dedicate to preparation is just the right amount of time!

If the slot that you can attend is full, just let me know. We have opened our small groups to the public to share our gifts with the community. Feel free to invite friends.
